Each year we put on a free Community Christmas Party which mainly targets people in the west side of the city. these have been attracting between 1500 and 2000 people each year. There are many different activities, and free food and refreshments are provided.
Each year we hold a free event in the auditorium of CCC on Pascal in the mid-year holidays. In 2016 and 2017 we showed a family movie, and in 2018 we had an inflatable night, with the auditorium filled with inflatable activities for children of all ages. At these events we provided free food. Over 400 people have attended these events. The community on the west side of the city is targeted, but families come from all over Palmerston North.
During the school holidays for the last four years we have run holiday programmes for primary aged children for a week, a fun programme with games, activities and food. Volunteers and parents run the programme with the support of high school aged young people. We include a fun skate/wheels day where the children are able to bring their scooters and roller blades to use on our ramps.
For many years we have run Mainly Music, a weekly programme during term time, giving young children and parents a place to enjoy music and dance in a safe, friendly environment. In 2019 this has changed to a playgroup which attracts up to 20 young mums with their preschoolers, who enjoy playing, morning tea and good conversation.
Break Away Retreat Camp for Solo Mums and Kids, and for Solo Dads and Kids
In conjunction with Highland Home Christian Camp, in 2016 and 2017 we ran retreats for solo parents with multiple children. This was run onsite at Highland Home and included a number of team building and family friendly games and activities. There was parenting advice offered and was a great opportunity to connect with other families in similar situations.
